Artist’s Statement: Paris Exhibition
The Paris séries was created in December 2004 when riding on the success of a previous French photgraphic series, I had the opportunity to spend two weeks in Paris.
Each day I set out to photograph a different avenue and the little backstreets became my favourite tramping ground. The weather was cold but the atmosphere wonderful; having always admired the old photographers such as Eugene Aget, Cartier-Bresson and Brassai.
Images such as 'C’est Mieux de voir ce qu’en entend', 'Fragile et Alert' and 'Histoire de Parc' were successful in capturing the everyday scenes of people and suggest a more narrative view of contemporary life in Paris.
These works were admired by other serious fine arts collègues and curators. Whereas the more popular images for sales have been 'La Tour et un Carousel ', 'Les Petit Bateaux' and other works.
